SAFETY OF CHILDREN IN THE SCHOOL:FOLLOWUP REPORT ON SECURITY RELATED GUIDELINES in r/o
HIMALAYAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL FATEHPUR
v.p.o& Teh.: Fatehpur, Distt. Kangra (H.P)

In view of the increasing incidents involving safety and wellbeing of school children and to address the concern of the parents regarding physical safety, mental & emotional health or child abuse of children; The SMC assembled, resolved and has undertaken the following measures (including measure directed by the CBSE) immediately: -

  1. The security audit of the school premises and personnel has got been done by the Local Police Station.
  2.  CCTV cameras have been installed, covering all vulnerable points, and being kept in functional condition all the time.
  3.  Police verification and psychometric evaluation of all the staff employedhave been done by the school very carefully and in detailed manner.
  4. Parent- teacher-students committee has been constituted to address the safety needs of the students and regular feedback is being taken from the parents and the children.
  5. Access to school building by any outsider is debarred and visitors upto the point of reception is being monitored strictly.
  6. Teachers and staff provided training and development on regular intervals to protects children from any type of abuse.
  7. The school has constituted  the following committees  for redressal of  Public / Parents/staff / student grievances committee:
  8. a. Public/ Parents grievance committee. b. Staff / students grievance committee. c. Internal committee(ICC) for sexual harassment. d. Committee under POSCO Act 2012.

The details of these committees have been displayed prominently on the school notice board andon the school website for info. of all stake holders.
In addition to the above measures,following guidelines are also being observed and shall continue to be observed with regard to the safety and security of the students in school premises and transit to school and back home.

Morning Entry

  1. Circular issued to the parents that they drop their wards in the school on given time.
  2. During arrival of children in the morning the entry gate is manned by the lady attendant along with duty teacher/ management person.
  3. Before entry of the students, all classroom, toilets and corridors are inspected.
  4. The classrooms, toilets   and student activity premises are sanitize/ prohibited for any outsiders/ intruder.
  5. Entry of parents/ visitors is restricted upto the office/reception after proper monitoring.

During Assembly

  1. Class teacher shall be staying with children during assembly.
  2. Late comers to be attended by the teacher / official on duty and allowed to enter the classes along with other children only.
  3.  Class monitors / prefect are trained to help maintaining safety and security.

Student Attendance

  1. Just after assembly there is student attendance, absentees marked and also head count done after attendance.
  2. Attendance to note on the right side of the board with date.
  3. Subject teacher to take attendance / head count just after the lunch.Also match it.

Lunch Time

  1. As the children of classes pry. / upper pry.  are   too young, they will be joined bythe teacher who was teaching just before lunch.
  2. Monitors / Prefect are trained to overseeand participate maintaining lunch discipline.
  3. Circular to parents that they do not give junk food for lunch.

Personal safety

  1. Random check of students’ school bag to ensure that they do not carry any electronic gadgets / objectionable things.
  2. Regular check to ensure that the students do not posses any sharp edge objects.  
  3. Monitors and prefects are involved by the class teacher to find out/oversee anything questionable.
  4. Corporal punishment strictly prohibited.
  5. The  management , the teachers and the parents to collaborate and teach children self- discipline and

Self -protection

  1. Both teachers and parents to educate children to be bold,to be fearless and to be alert.
  2. Not to vitiate/let others vitiate study environment by getting panicky in view of any mishaps elsewhere. Rather both teachers and parents along with the SMC undertake the responsibility of ensuring safety and security of the student under our charge.
  3. Central alarm system installed in the school.
  4. ‘Nirbheek’ box is fixed for anonymous complaints.

School-Off time

  1. Parents to take their ward from school gate on time.
  2. After the school is off teachers shall ensure that all children have left/ handed over safely.

Infrastructure and  CCTV

  1. There are well protected boundary walls of the school.
  2. Only one entry gate is kept open.
  3. Female attendant to oversee the toilet area of primary classes.
  4. Separate toilets are available for boys and girls.
  5.  Medical room is available / being kept updated
  6. Fire extinguishers are kept updated and training to handle them is being imparted to all the staff and a few students.
  7. CCTVs have been installedcovering classrooms,corridors and other premises of the school.
  8. The management and the teachers continue to ensure that CCTV are in working condition.

In case of illness

  1.  The child reporting /noted for any minor illness such as headache, fever etc.  is being taken immediately to the primary health care centre near to the school.
  2. Parents are informed immediately.
  3. For any serious illness observed, the instruction have been given that the child shall be taken to the nearest hospital without losing time, using standby vehicle.
  4. Circular given to the parents that if any child is sick at home,he/she should not be sent to school.

Transport Safety

  1. Transport safety norms are being / continue to be observed as per Supreme Sort guidelines.
  2. Provision of first aid box is done / to update from time to time.
  3. Grills on the windows fixed.
  4. Availability of water in the bus is ensured.
  5. Fitness of the buses being ensured.
  6. Trained & experience drivers with impeccable driving record hired.
  7. Circular to the parent that they drop and take their wards safely.

Regarding verification

  1.  Verification with regard to address , character , antecedent  , integrity , habits, attitude etc of all staff  have been done by the Management and also got done by local Police authorities and  this remains a continuous process. 
  2. Staff confidentiality regarding whereabouts, social links and mutual understanding and knowledge about each other between the management and all staff is also being maintained properly so that any ‘odd’ can be  identified and corrected.

Inspection / Safety audit

  1. Daily inspection by Hos/ Incharge.
  2. Daily Inspection by teacher on duty/member of SMC.

Responsibility

  1. It is well understood that the responsibility with regard to safety and security of our children lies with the management, the teachers and the parents. All the three have to work in coordination and collaboration with each other.
  2. Although Within the school premises , the safety of the child is sole responsibility of the management and the teachers , but the parents also have to keep an eye on  the activities of their ward, the quality of lunch and eatables they provide and the company of their children outside.
